Injection reminders that fit your routine
Vialog reminds you at the times in the schedule you set up, delivered by iOS on your iPhone. Each routine has its own reminders, so one can arrive early and another stay quiet.
Turning reminders on
Reminders follow a routine's schedule. When you save a routine with days and times, Vialog asks iOS for permission to send notifications. If you say no, everything else still works: entries still show on Today and can still be recorded.
To change a routine's reminders, open the routine from the Routines tab and tap Reminders. There you can set:
- Remind me about this routine: on or off. Off stops the banners only. The entries are still due, still on Today and still recordable.
- When › Arrives: at the scheduled time, or 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours before. The entry stays due at its scheduled time; only the banner moves.
- Second reminder: none, or one more banner 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours after the scheduled time. It is sent only while the entry is still not logged, and recording it or marking it as skipped takes it away.
Changing a reminder never changes the schedule. A routine recorded when used, with no days or times, has no expected entries and so no reminders.
Answering a reminder
Press and hold a reminder to see three choices:
- Record injection opens Vialog on the recording screen, so you confirm the amount, the time and, if you like, the site yourself.
- Remind me in 10 minutes sends the reminder again.
- Record as skipped marks the entry as skipped. Today can undo it.
Remind me and skip ask you to unlock the phone first. Every reminder ends "Open the app to record it", because a notification shown on Apple Watch can lack the button that opens the app.
What the lock screen shows
By default a reminder says only that you have a scheduled entry, because anyone who can see your phone can read the lock screen. To see the routine's name and the planned quantity there, turn on Settings › Show routine name and quantity. The same setting decides whether widgets and the watch show names and quantities.
Checking that reminders are set
iOS holds a limited number of notifications for each app, so Vialog schedules reminders up to three months ahead (less when you have many routines and times), and extends them each time you open the app. Settings › Check reminders shows how many are registered and the date they cover until. Its Try a reminder section sends a test notification ten seconds later, so you can lock the phone and see where it appears.
If a reminder did not arrive:
- check that notifications are allowed for Vialog in the iOS Settings app;
- check that a Focus is not holding them, and whether your Apple Watch is taking them while it is on your wrist;
- open Vialog once, so it can register the next stretch of reminders.
Delivery is up to iOS and is not guaranteed. A reminder is a convenience, not a safeguard.
When the clocks change
Entries keep their wall-clock time across daylight saving. A time that does not exist on the day the clocks go forward moves forward by the length of the gap, keeping its minutes (02:30 becomes 03:30), and a time that happens twice when they go back uses the first. Today says so on the day.
Vialog reminds you of the schedule you entered. It does not set, suggest or change a schedule.
